Dream D Device - The Life Long Test Strip

Today's suggested topic was to create a petition.  I've been reading through many blogs today and I really love all the petitions I've seen.  As it is, I would need to have a rubber stamp made to keep my hand from cramping from signing so many.  So I've decided to use a wildcard suggestion and tell you about my dream diabetes device.

My Dream Diabetes Device:  Permanent Test Strip

Think about it.  One test strip.. FOR LIFE!  No more random strips found literally everywhere.  no more money spent on an item smaller than my pen cap, but costs more than the entire pack of pens.

I got to thinking about this at lunch.  About a month ago, a couple of us were chatting on Twitter about how many test strips we go through.  Jenny of Sugar Beat started collecting hers in a plastic container.  On April 14th I started collecting mine in my meter case.

One Day

One Week

Almost One Month

I'm not sure I would want to see the size of the pile after six months, let alone a year.  What do you think?  Would you like a permanent test strip?

  1. I would snatch this up in a heartbeat. My pile resembles yours as well after only a week. And they really are quite expensive. I wish there was a permanent test strip. Maybe. One day. :)

  2. Yes please!!! No more fighting insurance for the number of test strips you need. Just get them to cover one and you are set for life!!! Love it!

  3. Good idea! Interesting how old becomes new again... we go from one reusable syringe to disposable single-use syringes, but from multiple disposable strips to a single reusable one. It sounds good to me, as long as I don't need to sterilize it in boiling water between each use. :)

  4. Yes! Yes! Yes! I'm behind you on this 100%. I would love to just be able to keep using one test strip... for ever. Or even one strip a day would be an improvement.

There would be no running out of strips at work and having to dash home or to the pharmacy.

  6. Brilliant. Think how much they'd charge us though. ;)

  7. Just today I called the pharmacy to refill the test strip prescription. I got the "It is too early to refill this prescription…" message. My daughter has been having so many lows, and every low uses a bajillion strips, not to mention all the strips we have to use anyway. This is a great idea. I don't get the insurance companies fighting on it either, you'd think they'd want us to work toward good control… it will save them money down the road when our daughter doesn't have complications!

    1. That's a lot of test strips! Having a life-long test strip would be a great idea. That would mean saving time from going to the pharmacy just to get the test strips. I think diabetics would love this idea.
